Even when the motorcyclist is paying close attention to the road and other drivers, he or she will be the one more likely to have serious injuries in the event of a crash.

  1. If there are injuries, seek medical attention immediately. You should move your car out of the road if possible, but remain at the scene of the accident. Turn on your hazard lights to warn oncoming traffic.
  2. Exchange contact and insurance information with other drivers, as well as with any witnesses.
  3. If there are injuries or property damage you should call the police and have an accident report filed.
  4. If you have a camera available or can use one from your cell phone, you should photograph the accident scene and both vehicles. This will be valuable information to have in processing your accident claim or in case of a lawsuit. Often people may find it difficult to recall specific details and photographs may help you to remember crucial information.
  5. Even if you do not think your injury is serious you should still consider being evaluated by a medical professional. Some injuries (especially neck and back pain) may not appear for days after the accident.
  6. Be sure to obtain the crash report case number or the Driver’s Exchange of Information form while at the scene of the crash. You should read the report carefully to ensure that the information is accurate.
